An Exclusive Interview with Matthias – Tips and Tricks from teachr’s Top Instructors

The world of online education has grown exponentially in recent years, and with it, the demand for high-quality, engaging, and effective online courses. As an instructor, how can you create a successful online course that stands out from the rest?

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Matthias, a top instructor on teachr and the creator of the popular virtual campus emergency.school In this exclusive interview, we discuss his journey as an online course creator, the secrets behind his success, and his advice for aspiring instructors.

Daniel from teachr: Thank you for joining us today, Matthias. Can you start by telling us a little bit about your background and how you got into creating online courses?

Matthias: Thank you for having me! I’m a trainer for medical professionals in Germany. I’ve always been passionate about teaching and sharing my knowledge as a trainer and currently working as a volunteer firefighter in spain. My colleague Biel Sancho helps me a lot with the medical subjects, which are often very similar between Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Spain. We have been working together for almost a decade.

With the rise of online education some years ago, I saw an opportunity to reach a wider audience and make a greater impact. That’s when I decided to create my virtual campus, emergency.school on teachr.

Daniel from teachr: Your courses have been recently very successful and well-received by your students. What do you think sets your courses apart from others in the same field?

Matthias: I believe the key to my courses’ success is the use of interactive modules, such as 3D, AR, and the reward at the end of a course. We offer small learning gifts in own design creates like mugs and caps at the end of a course and the given advantage was from teachr was, which we realized right away, that we do not need to buy extra material or store the good.

The warehouse at teachr is entirely virtual, – we do not have prior knowledge of how many students will register for a course. teachr has implemented a system where gifts for production (Print-On-Demand) are only ordered once the course is successfully completed and the user has placed an order. This ensures an much better workflow, where we can efficiently and complete automatically fulfill orders for course-related gifts, as they are produced and shipped on-demand, eliminating any excess inventory or wastage.

I believe that by combining these elements, teachr’s learning experience becomes more engaging and immersive compared to platforms like Udemy, Skillshare, or Teachable courses. We have also observed, through comparisons with other platforms, that the enrollment rates of teachr are significantly higher, resulting in increased sales.

In my courses, I aim to provide a better understanding of complex medical topics for my students. I make sure to keep my content up-to-date and relevant, ensuring that my students learn the most current information.

Daniel from teachr: What challenges did you face when creating your online courses, and how did you overcome them?

Matthias: One of the main challenges was finding the right balance between providing enough information and not overwhelming my students. I overcame this by breaking down complex topics into smaller, more manageable sections and using a variety of interactive modules to keep my students engaged.

Meanwhile our largest course is the Emergency Medical Technician course and really comprehensive. In the future, our courses will be somewhat smaller, because we have made the experience that too large can overwhelm the users. Less is more and we as tutors can also find out more quickly with smaller courses what the users are interested in and what not.

Daniel from teachr: What advice do you have for aspiring online course creators?

Matthias: First and foremost, choose a topic you’re passionate about and that is relevant to your target audience. Then, focus on creating engaging and interactive content that will keep your students interested and motivated. Don’t forget to provide clear instructions, encourage student interaction, and offer personalized feedback and support. Lastly, always be open to learning and improving your courses based on student feedback and industry trends.

Daniel from teachr: How has teachr helped you in creating and managing your online courses?

Matthias: teachr has been an invaluable platform for me. It’s UI is very user-friendly and teachr offers a wide range of tools and features that make creating and managing my courses much easier. The platform also allows me to easily incorporate interactive elements, like 3D, AR, which have been crucial to my courses’ success.

Daniel from teachr: What are your future plans for emergency.school and your online courses?

Matthias: I plan to continue expanding my course offerings and exploring new ways to make my content even more engaging and interactivewe want to offer a computer science course for medical technologies and are currently working on it. I also hope to collaborate with other medical professionals to create a diverse range of courses that cater to different needs and interests within the medical field.
